Applesauce Spice Bars
The batter smelled amazingly sweet, making me think about when I used to bake with my family. Making the glaze took longer than I thought it would. When it's all said and done your kitchen will smell like the holidays, with the smell of spices and apples filling the air.

vegetable oil
(27.26g baker's measure could also use melted unsalted butter or shortening)

applesauce
(250g baker's measure)

brown sugar
(133g baker's measure)

pumpkin pie spice

chopped nuts

Browned Butter Glaze

1/4
cup
butter
-

powdered sugar

vanilla

tbsp
hot water
(could need a little more)
Instructions
Applesauce Spice Bars

Stir together the first 4 ingredients; flour, baking powder, salt, and vegetable oil (butter or shortening) and set aside

Heat oven to 350 and grease a 13x9x2 pan

Beat applesauce, brown sugar, oil, and eggs in a large bowl on medium speed for a minute, don't forget to scrape down the edges about half way through

Stir in the mix you made in step 1 and the pumpkin pie spice plus any nuts you've chosen to add.

Bake 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean, cool, spread with Browned Butter Glaze. Cut into 3"x1"bars
Browned Butter Glaze

Heat butter over low heat until browned but not burnt, remove from heat

Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla.

Add water a teaspoon at a time, until smooth and desired consistency
