Heavenly Hamburger

In the book, this particular recipe was in my Nana's handwriting. I have no idea how she came up with it. I can only guess that she grabbed whatever she had on hand and threw it together. It's actually super tasty and I always enjoy making it. It's absolute comfort food.

Ingredients
  • 2 lb hamburger
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 6 scallions (white & small part of green only)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 8 oz sour cream (bring to room temperature for easy mixing)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 8 oz grated cheese (of your choosing)
  • 32 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 lb box of noodles (I prefer bow tie or rotini)
  • 1 tbsp spices (oregano, basil, Italian seasoning ... Be creative and play)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350. Put the meat and onion into a large frying pan. Cook until browned and the onion is softened, drain the grease.
  2. Add the spices,salt and pepper to the hamburger along with the tomato sauce. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Mix the cream cheese and sour cream together. Add scallions.
  4. Boil noodles according to the package instructions.
  5. Grease a 13x9x2 casserole dish. Lay the noodles in a layer. Top with the cheese. Top with the meat. Top with cheese again and bake for 15 to melt the cheese.
