Nana’s Pepper Steak

This was a childhood favorite and is till this very day. I make it throughout the year but it's an absolute MUST HAVE on my birthday every year. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Servings: 4 yield(s)
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 25 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Ingredients
  • 3 lb top sirloin steak (this is cubed I tend to use London Broil)
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil of choice
  • 1 yellow onion (julienned)
  • 1 green bell pepper (julienned)
  • 14.5 oz stewed tomatoes (I use the Italian style)
  • 1/4 cup sherry
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 cup cooked rice
Instructions
  1. Mix soy and sugar in bowl or bag and add cubed steak. Refrigerate this for 10 minutes to overnight. I tend to just let this sit while I cut everything else up and start the cooking process.
  2. Fry onion and bell pepper in oil until slightly browned then set aside.
  3. Add meat and the marinade to the pan and fry until meat is browned.
  4. Place onions and peppers back in the pan.
  5. Add the stewed tomatoes and sherry. Then bring to a slight boil.
  6. Mix cornstarch and water then add to the pan and stir until thickened.
  7. Serve over rice.
Recipe Notes

I absolutely love the sauce for this dish over rice so I tend to double up on everything so that there's plenty of sauce and I'll make an abundance of rice to have for lunch the next day warmed up with the sauce.
