Portuguese Sopas

This can be found at Holy Ghost Fiestas. It's a common Portuguese favorite. It's ugly food but damn good. Below you'll find instructions for stove top, crock pot and instant pot. I tend to serve this with macaroni or potato salad. It comes with a beautiful tale, if you'd like to know, ask.

Ingredients
  • 4 lb Chuck roast
  • 1 small onion
  • 9 cup water
  • 1 tbsp pickling spice
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 loaf sweet French bread (stale)
  • 4 mint sprigs (2 to cook, 2 to serve)
Instructions
  1. Tie pickling spice in cheese cloth or put in tea ball.
  2. Bring water to boil, add everything except bread to pot and boil 3 hours. Crock pot - throw everything in except bread high 4-6 hours Instant Pot - throw everything except bread in 35 minutes on meat/stew setting
  3. Move meat to separate plate. Shred with 2 forks. Put sliced stale French bread in bowl, place a couple mint sprigs on top and pour juice on top
