Garlic Naan Bread

Yields: 8 Servings Difficulty: Medium Prep Time: 2 Hr 20 Mins Cook Time: 8 Mins Total Time: 2 Hr 28 Mins

When I was making the Turkish Lamb Pilaf dish, I wanted to make it a full meal.  So I wanted to make some bread that was native to the area.  This bread is a really good bread recipe that is amazing with flavor.  I enjoy making bread so that is another reason I decided to do this.  It is a slow process but well worth it.

  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water until it starts to froth. This takes approximately 10 minutes. Stir in the sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough.
  • Knead the dough for 6 to 8 minutes. I used my mixer with the dough hook. But you can do this process by hand.
  • Place the dough into a well oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let the dough rise for 1 hour. or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Punch the dough down. Then knead in the garlic. Next step it to pinch the dough into small golf ball size balls of dough. Place it onto a tray. Cover with a damp towel and let rise an additional 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  • Roll the dough out into a thin circle. Lightly oil a grill pan, or griddle. Place the dough on to the grill pan or griddle and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the dough is lightly puffy and light golden brown. Flip the dough over on to the other side brush with the melted butter and cook for an additional 2 to 4 minutes.

Notes

This recipe takes a while to make due to the yeast having to rise.  Yet the time it takes is well worth it.  It tastes amazing.  What I did at the end while the bread was still warm was sprinkle it with an additional little bit of salt.  It really made the flavors pop.   This style bread would be amazing to be made into a pizza as well.
