You’ll love this bread for the smell alone! My whole house smells like citrus after baking this. This came out of the oven looking so pretty I couldn’t wait to slice it open and give it a try. I have never been too big on cranberries but this bread was really good! I just know it will be a hit at this year’s family holiday gatherings!

Instructions
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and soda. Cut in the shortening until the mixture looks like course cornmeal.
- In a separate bowl beat the egg well. Add the orange juice and rind. Mix well to combine. Pour into the dry ingredients and mix just enough to dampen.
- Gently fold the nuts and cranberries into the dough.
- Spoon the dough into a greased loaf pan, spreading the corners and sides slightly higher than the center.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until the bread is golden brown and the center is done.
- Remove from pan and let cool completely. Let sit overnight for easier slicing.
Notes
* Normally I would use fresh cranberries, but they were unavailable at the time I made this. I used dried cranberries instead.
