This is a dish similar to dolmas, but the difference is there is rice added to it. I have made dolmas before but never glumkies. This was an interesting dish to make. This is also a known polish dish. There are a variety of ways of making this dish but the concept is the same.

  • Remove stem from cabbage, pull the leaves off carefully not to tear, and wash
  • Place the leaves in a pot of boiling water and cook 8-12 minutes until soft. When done, drain and set aside to cook so you're able to touch it later.
  • Cook rice according to package directions.
  • Saute the garlic in a little olive oil but do not brown. Add the hamburger to the bowl and cook through.
  • Mix the hamburger and rice together. Add a small amount to a cabbage leaf, add a little mozzarella on top. Fold the cabbage to look like a roll. Place the seams down into a 13x9 pan.
  • Layer the whole tomatoes and its juices in the pan with the cabbage rolls.
  • Make sure the oven is at 375 degrees. Place the pan in the oven. Start with an hour to bake. It may take longer. Also basting the tomato juices adds flavor and is encouraged.
  • Once it baked through let cool about 5 minutes. Serve with sour cream and enjoy
