  • Cut 3 pounds of lamb into 1" cubes
  • Put the lamb into kettle, cover with cold water and bring to a boil.
  • Add 1/2 c barley and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
  • Cool, skim fat and if there are bones, remove
  • Put 2 Tablespoons of butter into a heating pan
  • Add carrots, celery, turnips, and onion.
  • Cook about 5 minutes and then add to soup
  • Add salt and pepper
  • Cook until vegetables are done and add water if too dry.
