When fall gets close you start hearing of all things pumpkin spice. One of those warming spices included in pumpkin spice is ginger. Ginger is versatile and can be used in savory and sweet cuisine, it has many health benefits, including aiding digestion. Traditionally in the fall and around the holidays, gingerbread cookies are a mainstay. This maple gingerbread is a wonderful way to get your gingerbread fix. It’s simple and easy and bakes up in less than an hour. Drizzle the warmed maple hard sauce over it and you have a great finish to any meal.

Maple Gingerbread
- In a medium bowl sift flour, ground ginger, salt, and baking soda.
- In a small bowl whisk egg until foamy, whisk in sour cream and maple syrup until combined.
- Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared greased loaf pan.
- Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack. Serve warm with maple hard sauce drizzled over. Maple Hard Sauce
- While bread is baking make maple hard sauce. in small saucepan melt butter over medium heat.
- Whisk maple syrup, heavy cream, vanilla, and corn syrup into melted butter.
- Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for about 10 minutes. It will thicken slightly and coat the back of a spoon. Stir continuously so it doesn't scorch.
- Remove from heat and whisk in whiskey. Return to heat and simmer 1-2 minutes more.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Pour into an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use. Serve over bread.
Notes
- Use pure maple syrup, not pancake syrup.
- Use unsalted butter, if you only have salted butter, omit the salt in bread.
- I used Jack Daniels Genglemans Jack, but you can use any whiskey you have on hand.
