No Cream Ganache

Ganache is a simple mixture of equal parts chocolate and heavy cream. What if you don’t have cream though? Easy, cream is just milk with more butter fats so add butter. Equal milk and butter to equal the chocolate.

Chocolate Cake – Instant Pot

Feelin kinda lazy so decided to make a chocolate cake in the Instant Pot instead of in the oven. I’ve also found the baked goods in the Instant Pot seem to have an amazing amount of moisture that makes them even more decadent.

Fake’n’Shake’n’Bake

Have you ever read the nutrition label on a box of Shake’n’Bake and seen the amount of sodium in there?? No thanks, I’d like to help my ticker keep  tickin. Here’s a much lower sodium, and in my opinion, healthier, tastier version. Like all things on this website, make it your own. Want more kick, add more Cayenne or maybe a little Slap Ya Mama. Going for a more  Italian feel up the Basil and Oregano, add some Rosemary. Play with this and make it yours. This makes about 4 packets worth so store it in a ziplock with all …

Nut Brittle is one of those fun candies that you can completely customize to your flavor tastes and nut preference. I make this every holiday season. In this photo, I used pistachios.

Sicilian Orange Cake

I have a HUGE weakness for anything orange and every year on my birthday I make myself an orange cake. This is one of many that I do 🙂 If you use a bundt pan be sure to thoroughly grease and flour it so that the cake won’t stick. You can use a bundt, an 8″ springform or round cake pan for this.

Pie Crust Mishap

While speaking to my cousin-in-law Carol recently she decided to share a tale of pie crust gone wrong that had me shaking my head and upon hanging up the phone crying with full blown belly laughter. When it comes to class Carol has it in spades. She’s always dressed meticulously. I honestly can’t recall ever seeing her in jeans. Granted, I didn’t see her often in my 28 years living in Mill Valley but whenever I did she was dressed well. My cousin, Don, her and their children moved into the best neighborhood our town had in 1979 and to …

Gilroy Garlic Festival

The Gilroy Garlic Festival was founded by Dr. Rudy Melone in 1978 after reading an article about a garlic festival being held in a small French town. After reading that the town was considered to be the “Garlic Capital of the World”, Dr. Melone felt compelled to prove to the world that his hometown, Gilroy should be worthy of that particular title. He set out to convince the owner of Christopher Ranch, Don Christopher, along with other businesses and local farmers to host their own garlic festival.  As it were, and still is, Christopher Ranch is the largest producer, processor, and shipper …
