Applesauce Spice Bars

The batter smelled amazingly sweet, making me think about when I used to bake with my family. Making the glaze took longer than I thought it would. When it’s all said and done your kitchen will smell like the holidays, with the smell of spices and apples filling the air.

  • Browned Butter Glaze

  • Stir together the first 4 ingredients; flour, baking powder, salt, and vegetable oil (butter or shortening) and set aside
  • Heat oven to 350 and grease a 13x9x2 pan
  • Beat applesauce, brown sugar, oil, and eggs in a large bowl on medium speed for a minute, don't forget to scrape down the edges about half way through
  • Stir in the mix you made in step 1 and the pumpkin pie spice plus any nuts you've chosen to add.
  • Bake 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean, cool, spread with Browned Butter Glaze. Cut into 3"x1"bars
  • Browned Butter Glaze
  • Heat butter over low heat until browned but not burnt, remove from heat
  • Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Add water a teaspoon at a time, until smooth and desired consistency
