- Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together into a bowl.
- Add syrup, shortening, milk and beat for 2 minutes.
- Add eggs and beat for 2 minutes.
- Add chopped pecans and mix well.
- Pour prepared batter into 2 greased and floured 9 inch pans.
- Bake on 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
- Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes before inverting them. Then allow cakes to finish cooling on cooling racks before wrapping and placing in the freezer to chill for 30 - 45 minutes before torting them into layers.
